The wireless world has been rocked by the recent inception of tablets and the wireless application development communities have gone into a frenzy coping with the demand for applications that do justice to the fantastic capabilities of these devices. The iPad is currently ruling roost with features capturing the imagination of users worldwide. But the tablet war is just heating up as newer alternatives in the form of Android tablets are in the pipeline and nearing launch.

There we try to determine what exactly these tablets possess to pose a threat to the supposed indisputable dominance of the iPad. Google’s Android is the platform that provides true multi-tasking abilities as compared to other platforms including Apple’s iPhone OS. Android application development has been able to make significant progress in this segment. When it comes to mobile application development Apple takes the crown without a doubt with over 200,000 apps in the Apple App market. The only issue that the iPhone application development community faces is the strict approval process that forces many an app dream to turn into ashes. Also Apple enforces a process in which the rules of approval are changed and previously approved apps too are chucked out of the app market because they do not conform to the new approval rules. It adds to the frustration of iPhone developers. Another point that goes against the iPad is the absence of Flash which forms the backbone of most of the content on the web today. Non-iPad tablets benefit because of Apple’s exclusion of Flash. As sleek and compact, the iPad might be and as svelte as it might look, there will always exist a segment of users who would opt for more functionality, higher hardware configurations and better connectivity.

The future predictions are pretty clear with dark clouds of intense competition dotting the horizon. The going for the iPad is not going to be easy in the time to come especially with advanced tablets and mobile application development, wireless application development and Android application development communities across the globe striving to provide better alternatives and a stiff face to Apple’s existing monopoly.

No doubt about it, the Apple iPad is currently the big kid on the block when it comes to internet tablets. But will this last forever? With new versions of a touch screen tablet springing up all the time, it’s hard to say how long the success of the iPad will last. It seems to be all about Apple right now, but can a competitor beat Apple at its own game?

Companies like Archos are coming out with a line of new Android tablet PCs that are likely to be a direct rival for the iPad and quite possibly take a bite out of Apples’ market share as the popularity of the Android operating system increases. Android tablets are sleek, attractive, and pack quite a punch in the specs department. With 5 new internet tablets on the way, Archos is positioning itself to be a hefty competitor.

How can a touch screen tablet that doesn’t bear the Apple name ever overtake the immense popularity of iPad? The secret of taking out the king of tablets just might lie in the laundry list features of the Archos Android tablet family. Archos knows how to pack a lot of punch into one small device.

Some say the iPad is nothing more than a recreated iPhone or iTouch. It has been pointed out that the iPad has some inherent weaknesses that are getting ignored due to its trendiness. For example, flash isn’t supported with an iPad. The line of Archos Android tablets does, which is a strong selling point. The iPad fails to have a multi-task function or the ability to watch TV (and the iPad doesn’t have USB ports either) but the new Archos internet tablets have all of the above and then some. Some internet tablet the iPad is, eh?

Other touch screen tablet options besides those from Archos have emerged too – such as the HP Slate and the Microsoft Courier. Quarters 3 and 4 of 2010 and the beginning of 2011 should be filled with a slew of new touch screen tablet debuts from many of the top tech companies looking to break into this increasingly competitive tablet market. Touch screen devices are all the rage now and tech companies will need to jump on the bandwagon in order to keep up with this fast paced industry that is powerfully led by Apple that is constantly evolving.

So when placed head to head, who wins? Is the Apple iPad actually superior or is this whole thing a marketing ploy by their skilled copywriters? Or are the Android tablets underrated pieces of history in the making? Competition for the iPad may be thicker than Apple originally thought.

Wayne Hemrick writes about–The android tablet

We have seen in the last few years a massive increase in the average person’s disposable income. This has been the case even with the recent recession. As a result of this extra disposable income we are seeing more expensive gadgets being aimed at the ‘average person’. Whereas before it was only the rich and more affluent who could afford these modern gadgets, now almost anybody can obtain one.

Why are Products ‘Hot’ at Certain Times? If you ask any marketing expert about the key to a product’s success the answer will be ‘timing’. If you release a product at the same time as a similar product then chances are you will have to share the market with that product resulting in less sales for yours.

Why are These Products Popular? One of the main reasons these devices are very popular today is the speed at which information is being passed around. The average person in today’s world has been raised on technology and is used to fast and convenient equipment. There is no need to order a book and wait two weeks for it to be delivered. Not when all you have to do is download the book to a handheld device and read as go about your busy schedule.

Due to their popularity these devices can demand a higher price. As mentioned earlier in the article people seem to have more money meaning they can spend more on luxury items. The companies that make and sell these devices know this and adjust their prices accordingly.

Also for any ‘gadget freaks’ these are ‘must have’ items and they are willing to go to extreme measures to attain them.

Will These Devices Improve in the Next Year? With the speed technology is now moving forward there is a very good chance that these new products will be improved on very soon. A lot of people buy a new product only to find that a newer more improved model is released the very next year. This is because there are often teething problems with devices upon their first release, so you might be better off waiting a while before buying one of these devices to see if there are any major glitches.

Now with this information you can decide whether you yourself should wait and see if the price comes down, or a newer more improved model comes out before spending your money.

You had to know this was coming. When Steve Jobs introduced the Apple iPad, it may have launched a new era in popular tech devices: the tablet computer. Of course any techie will tell you tablets have been around forever. However, they have never reached any semblance of commercial success. With several high profile tech giants coming out with their versions of the tablet, it seems like that’s destined to change. We took a look at the best and worst features of a few of the most notable tablets.

Apple iPad

With the Apple name alone, it’s safe to say the iPad will be the unquestioned leader of the tablet pack by the end of the year. That’s not an opinion, that’s a fact. In the pre-ordering stage during its first weekend, the iPad sold a remarkable 152,000 units in the US. It’ll move millions upon millions when it hits stores nationally and globally.

With its crystal clear, 9.7-inch screen at 1024-by-768 resolution, the iPad works much like an iPhone in terms of operating system and apps. Most of the apps available on the iPhone will be on the iPad. According to Mobile Analytics company Flurry, development of iPad apps have rocketed up 105 percent since the device’s unveiling in late January.

The visual impact of the iPad will make a significant mark on the publishing industry. For years, publishers have looked to transfer and integrate magazines and newspapers successfully onto the web. The results have been mixed. This looks to change with the iPad, whose interactive multimedia capabilities could help magazines shift into digital bliss.

The biggest flaw with the iPad is its inability to multitask. Meaning if you’re reading a document and want to listen to music, it’s impossible. That’s a major inconvenience for business leaders who are used to doing multiple things at once. Also, its lack of USB slots makes transferring files difficult. Still, despite these flaws, the Apple iPad is going to be an industry leader.

HP Slate

While it’s likely the Apple iPad will emerge as the leader, there are already others lining up to get a piece of the pie. One such competitor is the HP Slate. Debuting at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, the Slate may not have the sizzle of the iPad, but it has its own strengths.

One advantage it has over the iPad is it features Adobe Flash capabilities. For the simple fact approximately 85 percent of the top 100 websites require Flash, (according to Alexa.com) having it is definitely huge for the Slate.

Now HP’s Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Phil McKinney made a point to say that the HP Slate wasn’t competing against the iPad. But we know better. HP has been making the press rounds promoting Slate’s ability to use Flash for one reason and one reason only: it’s something the iPad doesn’t have. It is expected to hit the markets in either May or June with several disputed price points.

In addition, the Slate has the multitasking and picture capabilities that the iPad lacks. It also has the Windows platform. And let’s be honest, most business leaders are a lot more comfortable using Windows over Mac OS, that’s just how it is. The Slate does not have the apps that the iPad will feature. This is one of its biggest disadvantages.

Dell Streak

The Streak is a bit smaller than the iPad (9.7 inches) and the Slate (8 inches) with a 5 inch screen. If any were to be deserving of the title “Oversized Smartphone,” it’d probably be the Streak. This is probably not a device that you’ll be able to do a lot of word processing or creating presentations. Still, it has several advantages. The touch screen device uses the Google Android OS and it’s immensely more mobile than either the Slate or iPad.

One of the biggest potential benefits for the Dell Streak is an association with Amazon. Industry insiders are reporting the Streak might have an Amazon Kindle app, the most popular E-Book device out there. If this is the case, unlike the iPad, the Streak can attract to an audience that already knows the capabilities of its E-Book application. It’ll also use Amazon’s mp3 store.

There are plenty other alternatives (tablet processor manufacturer ARM expects approximately 50 iPad competitors this year alone), but these are going to be the big players in the US tablet market.

We all know about the hype surrounding the Apple iPad, millions of units sold worldwide in the first few days of launch, Apple fans queueing over night to get their hands on one, it’s certainly a popular piece of kit. However I think there are better options out there and its all about Android. Lets start with the basics and imagine you don’t know what Android is (I’m sure if you’re reading this a lot of you do). Android is an open source free operating system owned by Google.

Originally it was planned to be used as a mobile phone OS but it is starting to flex its muscles and expand its horizons. As a mobile OS it is already hugely popular, HTC Sony and many others have adopted it as the system of choice for all their smart phones and here’s why. The fact it’s open source means they don’t have to pay for it, which is obviously a great start but it goes further than that. The fact it’s open source means everyone and anyone can develop apps for it, modify it heck they can do whatever the like with it. A huge subculture has grown around Android of developers, modifiers and programmers, all making killer apps that they can put out onto the market with no licensing costs and either distribute for free or make money from. the amount of apps will very soon overtake Apple’s App Store for the amount available and it will just keep growing and growing. It’s unstoppable.

So what does this have to do with the iPad? well Android is now spreading its wings and many tablet manufacturers are using it on their tablets and most of them can do everything the iPad can and for half the price. Ok they are not as slick (yet) but many of these tablets offer features the iPad can’t because of it’s closed architecture. HDMI ports that output 720p video, meaning they are also portable HD media players, memory card slots so you can easily put data on and take it off, access to the myriad of apps available to Android users and much much more.

At the time of writing this Youtube video shows the very latest tablet, still not released but the demo just shows that these things really are iPad killers check it out here.

Things are developing so quick it’s hard to keep up with the new hardware that’s coming out. Please keep up to date with our blog. it is regularly updated with news, videos and photos of the latest Android tablets out there

Touch tablet devices are finally starting to become more and more portable and even more powerful. Couple the improvements in technology for tablets and the public’s praise of the devices and service providers will take notice. One sector that is planning to offer services are cable providers, they have big plans for tablet’s and they can’t wait to get them going.

One of the big draws for attention to tablets is the portability. The Apple iPad for instance weighs just 1.6 pounds if you get the fully loaded Wi-Fi and 3G model. For mobile TV providers portability is the only thing that matters, if it isn’t portable it can’t be called mobile TV. The cable providers also know that they will need strong internet connection to be able to stream TV straight to a tablet, that’s where the 3G capability that most tablets will have in future comes in handy.

The main players in the plan to bring cable television to a tablet near you include AT&T, Comcast, Time Warner, Cablevision, and DirectTV. All of those big name providers are planning for applications for the iPad and applications first and then for Android devices down the road. Most of the planned applications will be Free and available to customers of the companies main Cable services.

As of now though you can only get the U-Verse application which is provided via AT&T for iPad users for Free. The U-Verse application offers DVR functionality, content that you can download and the ability to stream content over a Wi-Fi connection. The U-Verse app is available for download through the iTunes App Store.
