One of the big draws for attention to tablets is the portability. The Apple iPad for instance weighs just 1.6 pounds if you get the fully loaded Wi-Fi and 3G model. For mobile TV providers portability is the only thing that matters, if it isn’t portable it can’t be called mobile TV. The cable providers also know that they will need strong internet connection to be able to stream TV straight to a tablet, that’s where the 3G capability that most tablets will have in future comes in handy.

The main players in the plan to bring cable television to a tablet near you include AT&T, Comcast, Time Warner, Cablevision, and DirectTV. All of those big name providers are planning for applications for the iPad and applications first and then for Android devices down the road. Most of the planned applications will be Free and available to customers of the companies main Cable services.

As of now though you can only get the U-Verse application which is provided via AT&T for iPad users for Free. The U-Verse application offers DVR functionality, content that you can download and the ability to stream content over a Wi-Fi connection. The U-Verse app is available for download through the iTunes App Store.
