2010 Set to Be the Year of Tablet Devices

If 2009 was the year of the mini laptops, 2010 is all set to be the year of the tablets. When netbooks arrived, it found itself a space for those looking for a simple laptop without all the bells and whistles to enable them to go online and use the internet and do a bit of document processing.

The price range of these powerless laptops or netbooks as they are known as, were in the range of $300-$500 and they did not find love amongst those who were looking to use their netbook for games or video playing. This is where the tablet PC shows its merits. They are mostly slate like and did games, videos easily and even helped user go on the web and surf the internet.

Many tech companies are already in the race to build the next mass selling tablet and Apple is the only company who has come out with their own tablet called the iPad. Other notable companies in the race are Dell, Lenovo, HP, Toshiba, Acer and Sony.

As of today, there are three different operating systems for these devices to use. The Apple’s iOS which is exclusively used by Apple on its own hardware is the most popular and wide spread thanks to the heavy adoption of Apples’ iPhone and iPod touch devices.

The other choices for a tablet operating systems are the android which seems to have caught fancy with many developers at the moment. The proposed tablets by many companies are set to run on this operating system.

There are currently about 10 android devices set to be launched this year and more than a dozen of Microsoft CE based devices were announced in the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2010. There are also a few tablet devices expected from technology giants such as Google and Microsoft soon. The only current difficulty that these devices face in their path of mass adoption is the price, which is expected to fall as the technology to develop them decreases over time.
